Is Mymetics An American Company?
Mymetics is a US company listed on the NASDAQ OTC:BB (symbol
MYMX).: While being registered in the states of Delaware
and New York, we operate on an international level: our corporate
and administrative offices are located in Nyon, near Geneva
(Switzerland). All of our medical research is
directed from our Swiss site.
What Is The Company's Primary Focus?
Our research has immediate implications for the development
of treatments to disarm retroviruses like HIV. It also has
applications for other retroviruses often associated with leukemia.
Our primary focus in the short term is to develop preventive
vaccines for HIV infection. We are also pursuing the development
of therapeutic proteins and protein fragments that block HIV
from fusing to host cells based on our fundamental understanding
of molecular "mimicry."
Does Mymetics Have Products Today?
We do not currently have medicines or drugs to thwart HIV and, in fact, it
is not part of our business model to ever produce our own vaccines or
therapies as only very large pharmaceutical companies have the resources and
know-how required to complete large scale human clinical Phase III trials
and the regulatory approval work required to put vaccines or therapies on
the market. Our intended exit strategy is rather to enter into a partnership
agreement with such a company at the latest after having completed our own
Phase II human clinical trials.
What Else Is The Company Studying?
We believe that our insights into viral "mimicry" have
applications for battling a number of diseases. In addition
to HIV, we've identified a similar molecular mimicry in simian
and feline versions (SIV, and FIV). We also foresee applications
for other retroviruses, including oncoviruses and certain forms
of leukemia. Multiple sclerosis is also a potential target
for our development work.
Who Are Mymetics' Major Competitors?
Mymetics is a small, focused player in the field of HIV therapeutics
and vaccines. In the broad area of therapeutics, our competitors
include Progenics, Trimeris, Hybridon, and a number of the
world's large pharmaceutical companies (such as Sanofi Pasteur, Novartis
(Chiron), Roche, Pfizer
and GlaxoSmithKline). In vaccines. Like any biotechnology company, Mymetics competes
with numerous other firms for resources to support its research.
How Does Mymetics Protect Its Intellectual Property?
Mymetics has secured a number of patents, and has several additional
patents pending, in Europe, North America and the rest of the
world. In addition, contracts with each of our research partners
enable us to control and own any new findings or intellectual
property. |
