Mymetics and HIV/AIDS
Human Immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)
MHIV-1 is one of the world’s largest infectious pathogen killers.

Due to migration and traveling, HIV-1 is now spreading to Asia and other countries that have been spared until recently.

The high mutation capability of HIV-1 may render the virus resistant to many therapies, which may also cause some toxic side effects over time.

More than 85% of HIV-1 infections occur through sexual contact, where the genital and/or intestinal mucosa are initially exposed to HIV-1.

An effective HIV-1 vaccine should ideally induce defense mechanisms that prevent HIV-1 transmission events taking place during the first minutes or hours following exposure to the virus:
- Preventing early HIV transmission events, such as the virus translocation across the mucosal tissues
- Preventing the first infection events that take place as soon as the HIV-1 has crossed the mucosal tissues
- Preventing the infection of target cells present into lymph nodes
